Overview

You're in space. You've colonized a planet. Your goal: Earn as much money as you can. If you like games that require a spreadsheet, then you will love PU.

Gameplay

Gameplay is straight forward, and very repetitive. You begin by selecting a planet to colonize. After that, you setup supply chains based on naturally occurring planetary commodities, then send your ships off to an exchange to sell production before returning home with any items you may have purchased. Yes, you need fuel for your ships as well as food, water, and air for your workers and ships require TIME to reach their destinations and return home. So most of your time in PU is waiting… waiting for your supply chains to produce stuff, waiting for your ships to deliver, waiting for another player to buy your stuff, waiting for ships to return home, and waiting for upgrades.

Over time you will want to expand your production through your supply chains and work force. You will also want to expand your fleet. The challenge is in being able to fill a gap in the market well enough to compete with others. The general approach is to stay focused within your area of production in order to maximize your profits. For example, if you want to be a "Carbon Farmer" then be the best Carbon Farmer you can be because diversification is costly and can cut into your bottom line.

PvP

PU does not have a traditional PvP system. Instead it has economical PvP in the sense that players compete with each other to see who can can collect the most money, or stuff, or both.

World Map

The size of the "world" is decent with plenty of "systems" to explore navigate. I'd like to explore but that's not really a game feature because travel can be expensive and is present in PU as utility, not entertainment. Each dot in the map below indicates a system that is typically composed of anywhere between 3 to 9 planets.

Criticism

Aside from playing a game that has a singular pre-arranged purpose, my primary criticism is that this game runs hot for some reason. It's a browser game with flat graphics and I play on a good Alienware laptop yet for some reason, this BROWSER MMO spools up my fans as if I were playing a AAA title. It's enough to make me suspicious of whether or not this game is running a miner in the background. (Can someone check?) If not for this annoying fact, I'd still be playing PU because despite how repetitive the game is, I still enjoyed it a lot, which is why it's top-ranked on this site..
